Wednesday evening, at 6:36pm PST, the moon peaks in fullness at 7° of Pisces, the cosmic fish. It’s a rare Super blue moon—the next one will be in January 2037. As with all full moons, a current of manifestation is culminating, while a current of liberation is beginning. Pisces loves a good ending/beginning. It also loves poetry, swelling up with emotion, humming beautifully and tunelessly, and dissolving the boundaries of the self just enough to melt back into the great Is that both Is and Isn’t. Pisces is an endlessly flexible, creative, adaptive force, and it’s essentially tidal—a wave becoming a wave, then remembering it’s the ocean, then enjoying imagining itself as an individual wave again, rising, crashing, starting over. The Piscean move is to go with the flow, and trust the intelligence of that flow—to be in the river of what’s happening now.
The shift in energy might be subtle for you, and it might be not subtle. Last week we transitioned from the intense emotional drama of Leo season and entered the survey-and-organize-the-wreck drama of Virgo season, just as Mercury stationed retrograde in Virgo. We’ve been auditing and editing, reviewing the details, slowed down and a little tripped up in our process but also getting a real grip where we haven’t really been able to get a grip. If you were at all enjoying that, feeling a little clearer-headed, don’t worry, it will return. But not until this full moon and its tide does it thing. There is a deep emotional or spiritual truth rising with this tide, an insistent inner voice that wants to speak and be heard. It’s connected to what stirred on the new moon in Leo (The Fire Under Our Tongues), and the healing of this Venus retrograde. It will require us to settle down out of the “doingness” of Virgo into more of the “beingness” of Pisces. And with so many planets in retrograde (7 as of Monday), time itself this week is likely to get sloshy, as Bayo Akomolafe says. Not great conditions for a work week or task lists or deadlines. Perfect for synchronicities and healing breakthroughs and surrendering to love and divine timing.
This moon is being flanked by a retrograde Saturn (the gateway of form) and a retrograde Neptune (the gateway of dissolution), who are standing sentry at 3° and 26° of Pisces respectively. If there were another useful or stabilizing perspective to take on this full moon, while time is sloshing all around you, it might be found in reflecting on the impact Saturn has had on the part of your life influenced by Pisces. Saturn first entered Pisces six months ago, back in March, on the same day as the Virgo full moon (Washing Order into Chaos) and just a few weeks after the Pisces new moon (The Formless That Dreams of Form). Something big has been emerging and shapeshifting.
Saturn is about limiting and contracting and manifesting. It wants to provide containment to all of this flow and lifeforce, to give us rules and discipline that bring us and our creations into greater integrity. Pisces is expanding and liberating and imagining, and it doesn’t really acknowledge the existence of rules or the need for discipline. It’s not resisting Saturn so much as just being itself on a whole other dimension, so Saturn is on some slippery ground here as it tries to do its thing. But Saturn knows how to stay the course to make something real and solid. Here in Pisces, it’s able to tap directly into the panoriginal field or unity or nothingness that mysteriously gives rise to somethings and inklings and longings. It’s working on realizing some of our soul’s dream, bringing it into existence in this lifetime. Since Saturn is not even through it’s first act here, we shouldn’t expect too much progress yet. But we can reflect on what has happened, what has begun to take some shape, or what we have learned about the rules or boundaries or containers we need now, and celebrate that. And as needed, we can get still, and listen to this insistent inner voice—the voice of soul, of integrity—and acknowledge what it wants.
The Sabian symbol for 7° of Pisces is “a cross lying on the rocks,” which tells me that whatever inner truth is stirring, it might be the voice of deep morality, one that transcends the morality of the dominant culture, or of your family of origin, or your chosen family. Because it’s coinciding with the last bit of Venus’ retrograde journey, it’s likely trying to help us integrate our shadow, or a part of ourselves or our truth we once buried to protect our attachment relationships, that must now be fully empathized with and loved, included and restored. Like, if there is anyway you are healing from self-betrayal, and discovering how to stand firm in your authenticity and express your emotional truth; if you are learning how to overcome cynicism to have faith in yourself, and faith in the great messy process of life, this could be an important week. Inner strength comes from living within the state of your deep convictions, and surrendering into your deepest love, and including yourself in that love. The war is already over. You can lay down your sword, and let the struggle to love yourself come to an end. Trust that on the other side of excessive compromise is an experience of resting into the joy and rightness of your true nature and power. Stay the difficult but liberating course.
