Equinoxes and solstices mark the thresholds where one season ends and another begins, holy days on the cosmic earth clock. The summer and winter solstices are the extremes of light and dark, giving us the high drama of the longest day and the longest night. The fall and spring equinoxes mark the points of balance in the cycle, when day and night are equal in length. When we honor the solstices and equinoxes, we are actively participating in this sacred geometry. We don’t have to throw big parties or perform elaborate rituals if we don’t feel like it. We can just pause and notice it’s happening. We can receive the reminder these thresholds bring, always timely, that death and birth are entangled, and that we are alive somewhere in the middle of what is dying and what is being born.
